Choose Peak detection for adjustable attack and release, or RMS for a smoother response with automatic timing.
Use the external sidechain to duck a bass, pad, or bus from another track. The gate follows the selected key source too.
VCA Drive brings more harmonic colour as you turn it up, while leaving the detector threshold unchanged. Use Output to keep comparisons level.
Threshold and Rate shape the gate. Reverse changes the direction; a 1:1 compressor ratio leaves gate operation available.
Open Character to find OVERDRIVE ACCESS FORBIDDEN. In Help, type UNLOCK OVERDRIVE and press Enter to reveal warm saturation after compression. Turn it up to taste, then match levels with Output.

A FEW PLACES TO START
Insert it on a bass or pad, route a kick to the sidechain, select External, then set the release to fit the groove.
Choose a softer knee and moderate ratio. Work the threshold until the drum performance begins to move together.
Use the gate to shape space between hits. Try Reverse for a different response to the key signal.

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS
Yes. Route another track to the sidechain input in your DAW and choose External. Your DAW handles the routing; your kick handles the unsolicited opinions.
Same visible settings, independent left and right detection. Stereo Link uses a shared detector level. Two ears, one very tidy control panel.
Start with a slower Attack to let the front of a hit through, then set Release to follow the groove. Use Output to compare the result at a matching level.
Use A and B to hold two settings, then Copy to carry your current sound across. Both slots and your interface size save with the project. A little perspective for your next turn.
