Keep the picture together
Stereo Link shares the detector between channels. Switch it off for independent detection with the same visible controls, then use Mix to blend compression alongside the original.
Colour with a light hand
Open Character for Colour Drive, Tube Balance and Iron: rounded peaks, tube harmonics, adjustable asymmetry and low-frequency warmth. Optional Noise adds its own dust to the valves.

Two moving-needle meters show gain reduction. A/B, Copy and Init help you compare, corner resizing finds a comfortable fit, and Help opens right inside the panel.
Let another track lead
Use your DAW’s parameter list to select External Sidechain and route a trigger to the auxiliary bus. Sidechain 100 Hz eases the detector’s response to bass.

Wrap a vocal in velvet
Start in Compress with Stereo Link on and a 25–40 ms Attack. Lower Threshold for a few dB of reduction, then match loudness with Output.
Let a bus breathe
Choose Recovery to follow the rhythm. Blend with Mix when you want some of the original attack to slip through.
Warm up the edges
Try Colour Drive around 6–12 dB, with Balance and Iron near the middle. Small turns go a long way; compare at the same level.

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS
Is RFC-VAR a purple RFC-VCA?
Different circuitry, different manners. RFC-VAR uses an original bias-controlled tube model with feedback detection. RFC-VCA is the separate VCA compressor and gate. Same family, different seats at the console.
Where does its character come from?
Classic stereo variable-mu compression inspires an original bias-controlled tube model. Colour Drive, Tube Balance and Iron bring its own shade of warmth.
When should I reach for Limit?
Choose Limit for a stronger squeeze. Attack and Recovery shape the movement; Output sets the finishing level. Keep an eye on the meters and follow the groove.
How do I find a starting point?
Try Compress, Stereo Link on, and Attack around 25–40 ms. Lower Threshold for 1–3 dB of reduction, then match loudness with Output. The valves will take it from there.
